LG OLED presents “We Meet Again in New York” celebrating the late Korean artist Kim Whanki through a curated selection of his masterpieces reimagined in digital form. The exhibition follows the artist’s journey of art, from his “heart” icons, which shape his deep sorrow toward his late mother in the Sacred Heart series, to his process of constructing a world of order and balance while more actively condensing and deconstructing scenes of nature, and his arrival at his “dot paintings,” in which sensuous dots lead change in picture composition through repetition and overlapping, and colors with dense aura projecting the artist’s inner world embroider the entire picture-plane.
From the time he settled in New York, up to his death in 1974, Kim was constantly experimenting with diverse materials and making countless formative changes, until finally he achieved a complete abstract space—the world of "All-over Dot Painting.” When he drew his last breath in New Work, perhaps he returned to one of the countless dots that filled his picture-planes, and became one of the stars in heaven, illuminating the heart of the city until today. In acknowledgement of the 50th anniversary of Kim Whanki's passing, we pay tribute to his enduring impact and artistic legacy.
